Bahrullah Akbar Takes an Official Oath as the Board Member of the BPK for the Period of 2016-2021

Prof. Dr. Bahrullah Akbar, M.B.A., C.M.P.M. took an official oath as the BPK’s Board Member for the period of 2016-2021, guided by the hief Justice of the Supreme Court, Prof. Dr. M. Hatta Ali, SH, MH, at the office of the Supreme Court in Jakarta on Tuesday (11/8). The official oath was taken based on the article 16 point (1) of the Law Number 15 Year 2006 regarding the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK) stating that before taking office, the Board Member of the BPK is obliged to take an official oath according to his religion.

The assignation of the Board Member is stipulated by the Presidential Decree Number 118/P Year 2016 regarding Discharge with Respect and Assignation of the BPK’s Board Members. In this Decree, the President officially discharges with respect Bahrullah Akbar as the BPK’s Board Member for the period of 2011-2016 and officially assigns him as the new Board Member for the period of 2016-2021. This reveals his second term as the Board Member of the BPK.

Before inaugurated, Bahrullah Akbar had participated in the fit and proper test and was appointed through the voting mechanism by members of the Commission XI of the House of Representatives on September 21, 2016. By October 4, 2016, the Plenary Session led by the Vice Spokeperson of the House of Representatives agreed to assume him as the BPK’s Board Member. This is based on the Law 15 Year 2016, article 14 point (1), which states that the BPK’s Board Members are appointed by the Hause of Representatives with regard to the consideration of the House of Regional Representatives.

Bahrullah Akbar once was the Special Staff of the Secretariat General of the Internal Affairs Ministry from 2003 to 2004, the Staff of Regional Finance Director General of the Internal Affairs Ministry from 2005 to 2007, the Expert Staff of Lingga Regency in Riau Archipelago Province in 2007, the Professor of the Institute of Public Administration (IPDN) of the Internal Affairs Ministry in September 2014, and the Board Member VII and VI of the BPK. As the Board Member VII and VI, Bahrullah Akbar led audits on the Ministry of State-owned Enterprises, Indonesia’s Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Special Task Force (SKK Migas), the Ministry of Health, the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM), as well as all regional governments in Provincial, Regency, City and Regional-owned Enterprises’ levels in Region II (Bali, Nusa Tenggara, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku and Papua).
