BPK and KPPU sign Cooperation to Prevent Monopolistic Practices

The Audit Board (BPK) and the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) have signed a cooperation agreement related to management and accountability of state finance in the context of prevention and handling of cases of alleged monopolistic practices and unfair business competition.

BPK Chairman Harry Azhar Azis said that the recommendations on the result of BPK audits have until now only reached the issue of management of state finance and have yet to touch business players. Meanwhile, business players actually have an important and dominant role in violation of laws and regulations.

Therefore, BPK and KPPU make an agreement related to audit on management and accountability of state finance and prevention of cases of alleged monopolistic practices or unfair business competition," he explained in Jakarta yesterday.

The agreement also has the purpose to enhance the synergy and harmony including exchange of information, use of expert staff, education and training as well as dissemination, and development of information system. With the signing of the joint agreement, BPK audits particularly related to alleged monopolistic practices and/or unfair business competition in the management of accountability of state finance, including settlement of follows up action to BPK audits are expected to be more effective and comprehensive.

"This is also considering that the KPPU has the authority to conduct investigation against cases of alleged monopolistic practices or unfair business competition and impose sanction against business player breaching laws and regulations," he asserted.

KPPU Chairman Syarkawi Rauf said that the signing of such agreement can prevent indication of collusion and unfair business competition based on the framework of audit on management and accountability of state finance. "For example, related to management of goods at the central government, local government, State-owned enterprises, or regions, indication of unfair competition can be prevented. Hence, BPK information is important for use to review such issues," he said. (Ichsan amin)
