BPK Discussed Bilateral Cooperation with ANAO

Vice Chairman of the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK), Hasan Bisri, with Board Member II of BPK, Sapto Amal Damandari, held a high level meeting with the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO), 8 to 11 September 2014, in Canberra. BPK delegation and the Auditor-General of Australia, Ian McPhee discussed the progress of bilateral cooperation between the BPK and the ANAO in the framework of the Government Partnership Fund (GPF) phase II, as well as discussed the plan of activities for 2015 and beyond.


In this occasion, BPK delegation also explained the progress of the government and BPK preparation for the implementation of accrual-based financial statements. In addition, BPK elaborated the strategy adopted by ANAO and the Australian Government at the beginning of the application of accrual accounting.

Vice Chairman of the BPK said that the partnership has been effective for almost eight years. It has also produced many benefits, such as increasing the capacity of BPK auditors, both at the headquarter and the Representative Offices. BPK hopes this cooperation will be kept ongoing in the scheme of DFAT (Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade) or other AusAid programme, both in the field of the financial and performance audit.

In regard to the implementation of accrual-based financial statements, Board Member Sapto Amal Damandari emphasized that the BPK keeps supporting the government in implementing accrual-based accounting reporting in 2015. The effective communication and coordination, in addition, has been carried out by relevant agencies involving BPK, Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Home Affairs to achieve successful implementation of the accruals.

Auditor-general Ian McPhee mentioned that ANAO will support the needs required BPK future, particularly related to the implementation of accruals. Ian also stated that from the perspective of auditors, ANAO sets the audit strategy at the beginning of the application of accruals, including the audit priority accounts in the financial statements.

The delegation also met with the Auditor-General of the Audit Office of New South Wales (AO NSW) in Sydney on 11 September 2014. At this meeting, BPK and AO NSW agreed to continue cooperation in 2015 under the umbrella of the GPF phase II.
