BPK Encourages Follow-Ups of Recommendations Based on Audit Findings and Improvement of Public Welfare

Gorontalo, Monday (16 February 2015) – BPK in collaboration with State University of Gorontalo organized a seminar titled "BPK, State Financial Management and Public Welfare” at Ballroom Damhill Training Center, State University of Gorontalo, today (16/2).

Invited as resource persons at the seminar were Chairman of BPK Dr. Harry Azhar Azis, M.A., Vice Governor of Gorontalo Dr. H. Idris Rahim, M.M., Rector of State University of Gorontalo Dr. Syamsu Qamar Badu, M.Pd., and Chair of Commission XI of House of Representative Ir. Fadel Muhammad. Serving as the moderator was Abdul Rahman Farisi, S.E., M.S.E., one of BPK’s advisers.

Rector of State University of Gorontalo Dr. Syamsu Qamar Badu, M.Pd. as host delivered a welcoming speech at the event. The seminar was also attended by BPK Board Member Prof. Dr. Bahrullah Akbar, M.B.A., Principal Inspector Dr. Mahendro Sumardjo, and Head of BPK Representative Office in Gorontalo Bingkros Hutabarat, S.H. Also invited were the Speaker of Provincial Legislative Council (DPRD), regents and mayors in Gorontalo, Head of the Regional Leadership Communication Forum of Gorontalo, heads of Regional Work Units of the Provincial Government and the City of Gorontalo, heads of provincial institutions, BPK officials, and the academic community of State University of Gorontalo.

BPK is a state agency with the responsibility to audit the state financial management and accountability as mandated by the 1945 Constitution. Audit results are to be submitted to representative bodies such as the House of Representative, Regional Representative Council, and Regional Legislative Council as well as to the Government for further follow-ups. The types of audit BPK conducts include financial audit, performance audit and specific purpose audit. With these duties, BPK bears the role of ensuring the state financial management to achieve the national goal of creating an equitable, wealthy and prosperous society.

In the future, BPK will increasingly conduct performance audit of government agencies, local governments and State Enterprises/Local Enterprises. In fulfilling this duty, BPK as well as the audited entities will need performance indicators to serve as reference and standards. BPK’s performance audit results will provide an assessment as to how efficient, economic and effective the state financial management are, thus obtaining a causal relation between the way state finance is managed and how social welfare is improved.

The aim of the seminar was to improve stakeholders’ understanding of the existence and functions of BPK as the auditor of state financial management and accountability. In addition, the seminar was also a great momentum to establish communication and constructive dialogue to jointly realize state financial management system that is transparent and accountable used to the most extent possible for the prosperity and welfare of the people.

On the following morning, a Coordination Meeting to optimally follow-up on the recommendations that BPK made based on audit findings in the provinces of North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, and North Maluku. Chairman of BPK Dr. Harry Azhar Azis, M.A. opened the meeting, followed by a speech by Board Member Prof. Dr. Bahrullah Akbar, M.B.A. The coordination meeting was led by Principal Auditor Syafrudin Mosii, S.E., M.M., with Head of BPK Representative Office in North Maluku Province Kukuh Prionggo, S.H., M.H. as resource person, and Head of Auditorate VI.B Ir. Adi Sudibyo, M.M. as moderator.
