The Construction of the Power Plant of 35,000 Megawatt: a Dream to be Real

Bandung, Monday (August 3, 2015) – Regarding the optimization the supervision of the state finance management, the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK) held a coordination meeting on the follow up of the BPK’s audit report at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) themed “the Construction of the Power Plant of 35,000 Megawatt: a Dream to be Real” today (8/3) in the West Hall of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Jalan Ganesha No. 10 Bandung. The meeting presented resources persons such as the BPK’s Board Member, Prof. Dr. Rizal Djalil, the Minister of ESDM, Sudirman Said, and an electricity power expert of the ITB, Dr. Ir Pekik Argo Dahono. This event was attended by stakeholders in the West Java region, the echelon I of the ESDM Ministry, Indonesian Electricity Producers Association, Indonesian Enginers Association, related ministrial officials and academists of the West Java region.

In order to catch up with neighbouring countries and equally give access to the electricity for the society, the government is now committed to realize the availability of electricity of 35 thousands Megawatt in 5 years. To achieve the target, the readiness and commitment from all parts to face any challenges, especially those related with problems and strategies how to overcome those problems.

Beside the program of 35 thousand Megawatt, there was a discourse saying that it is the time for Indonesia to develop a nuclear power plant. The discourse arouse as the nuclear power plant has many benefits such as its environmental friendliness (if applied properly) and low cost (especially its operationalization that does not need any oil and gas or even coal as its fuels). It was ensured that Indonesia has many experts capable of developing the power plant. It was hoped that the coordination meeting could comprehensively discuss about the prospect of achieving the target of providing 35 thousand Megawatt electricity within 5 years and challenges of developing the nuclear power plant in Indonesia.
