BPK Board Member I Advises to Preserve The Culture, Accountability for All

JAKARTA, BPK Public Relations – The Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK) provided an unqualified opinion for the financial statements fiscal year 2019 of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub). The audit revealed that the Kemenhub had presented its financial statements fairly in all material aspects. The balance sheet, the statement of budget realization, the operational report, and the statement of changes in equity as of 31 December 2019 were in accordance with the Government Accounting Standards.

This was conveyed by the BPK Board Member I, Hendra Susanto, while handed the audit report on the financial statements fiscal year 2019 to the Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi, in the Kemenhub’s Head Office in Jakarta, on Tuesday (28/7).

“We need to add that having the unqualified opinion does not mean that the financial statements are free from faults. The BPK still found some weaknesses both in the internal control system and in the non-compliance with the laws and regulations that need to fix," the Board Member said.

Until the entities followed up all the audit recommendations, the BPK’s tasks have not been finished yet, although the audit report has been handed. Therefore, the audit opinion is not the only important elements to measure the entities’ commitment for accountability but the follow up to the audit recommendations is as well as the important elements. To ensure this follow up, the monitoring to the follow up is needed.

Besides the financial audit report, the Board Member also handed the audit report on the infrastructure development of the light rail transit in the South Sumatera financial year 2016-2019. The audit concluded as much as Rp1,3 trillion price efficiency on the contract had been made by the Kemenhub for the development of the light trail transit in the South Sumatera.

The Board Member said that both the Kemenhub and the BPK, basically, had the same commitment to establish accountable state financial management. However, the responsibility to the accountability is not borne only by the officials in charge for the state financial management but the accountability is more be a culture that everyone needs to preserve. Therefore, in the efforts to always make the country be better, the tagline “accountability for all” needs strong commitment and hard work from everyone.

Attended the event along with the Board Member was the Director General of Audit I, Novy G.A. Pelenkahu, high-level officials in the Kemenhub, and the BPK’s audit team.
