BPK Uses It to be Center of State Financial Analysis

Jakarta, Wednesday (13 January 2021) – The current development of Information Technology (IT) enables the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK) to work not only using data combinations within its authorities, but also benefitting from broad integration of these data with other diverse data combinations. For the BPK, it opens an opportunity to advance the best use of big data concept. By putting both the IT applications and the big data analysis to the best use in its works, the BPK is expected to be a center of state financial analysis. The Chairman of BPK, Agung Firman Sampurna, conveyed the expectation in his remarks at the final of Hackathon Competition in the Head Office of BPK yesterday (12/1).

The vision of BPK is to be a trusted audit institution that plays an active role in fostering state finance with high quality and useful financial governance to achieve state objectives. Having the vision, the BPK invites multi stakeholders, including students and professions, with the IT abilities or skills to cooperate and collaborate inventing and developing either software or applications that support the BPK in fulfilling its duties.

As implementation of the invitation, the BPK organizes the Hackathon Competition with a theme ‘Hack for Accountability and Transparency’. Besides being part of commemoration series for the 74th Anniversary of BPK, the competition is to build effective communications with the diverse stakeholders. In addition, the Hackathon Competition shows a serious commitment of BPK to promote and emphasize the values of accountability and transparency that not only the state finance officials and auditors, but all of us also share a responsibility for the accountability and transparency.

Started in November 2020, the Hackathon Competition had been running for the final session in which announcement of the finalists was made on 7 January 2021. The final session was organized on 12-13 January 2021 with 17 finalists from Philippines and Indonesia passed the previous sessions. The works of the finalists are selected based on the scoring criteria, including the originality, the idea, the concept, the application of idea, the impact to business process in BPK, as well as how the idea is presented.

After going through the scoring and passing the final session, the winners will be announced by the Vice Chairman of BPK, Agus Joko Pramono, on 13 January 2021. The panel of jury appointed for the scoring consists of the Indonesian Internet Domain Name Registry, the Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association, the Faculty of Computer Science of Universitas Indonesia, and the Indonesian Information Technology Federation.

At the end, the expectation of the competition is to bring a comprehensive understanding and to improve a public awareness that in our daily life as citizen, immersing the accountability as the values and culture is important. Furthermore, the competition will increase participations as well as strengthen roles of the citizens to jointly promote a good state financial management through the invention and development of innovative software or applications that support the BPK in accomplishing its duties.
