Facing the Industrial Revolution 4.0, BPK Vice Chairman Encourages Students to Improve Their Potentials

JAKARTA, Humas BPK RI – the Vice Chairman of the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK), Bahrullah Akbar, gave a public lecture in front of around 500 students and academicians of the Jakarta State University (UNJ) themed "Industry Revolution 4.0 Era and Society 5.0". The public lecture took place at the Bung Hatta Hall in the UNJ Postgraduate Building, Jakarta, today.

In his presentation, Bahrullah Akbar conveyed that the industrial revolution did not only change industrial aspects, but also various structures of people's lives. This condition was demonstrated by the introduction of Society 5.0 by Japan. "If in the western countries a physical robotic technology is everything about industrial revolution 4.0, it is not with Japan. There is something more important, the people. That is what is meant by society 5.0, that today it must synchronize the people with the technology, the technology with the culture", the Vice Chairman explained.

According to him, technology advancements have brought an ease for the people in various parts of the world, borderless and without obstacle. However, they must be careful in using it. "Technology does not merely lead us to the better, but it also encourages us to do good. Thus, we must be careful in using technology”, he said.

In addition, the Vice Chairman expected that human resources, especially students, are able to develop their potentials to the fullest, both in the academic and non-academic fields, as well as explore and learn other competencies from various sources. That is because in facing the industrial revolution 4.0 and society 5.0, superior and creative human resources are needed.

Apart from providing exposure to the industrial revolution 4.0, specifically related to students in facing it, during the public lecture attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Education of the UNJ, Sofia Hartati, and the Vice Deans of the Faculty, the Vice Chairman also introduced BPK’s duties, authorities and position within the governmental structure.
