Kick Off Meeting Of Audit On State Financial Management and Accountability in Handling Covid-19 Pandemic
JAKARTA, BPK Public Relations – How to handle the Covid-19 pandemic has challenged diverse nature of the state financial management and accountability. The government handling the Covid-19 pandemic includes the central government, the local governments, and other government institutions managing the state finance such as, State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Bank Indonesia (BI), Financial Service Authority (OJK), and Indonesian Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS). In the effort of national economy recovery, the government has been monitoring and supervising the policies and activities in handling the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia.
This was said by the Chairman of the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK), Agung Firman Sampurna, in the Kick off Meeting of Audit on State Financial Management and Accountability in Handling the Covid-19 attended by the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, in the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, on Tuesday (08/09/2020).
Along with the Chairman of BPK and the President were the Vice President of Indonesia, Ma'ruf Amin, the Vice Chairman of BPK, Agus Joko Pramono, the Ministries of the Indonesia Onward Cabinet, the BPK Director General of Audit III, Bambang Pamungkas, and the BPK Senior Advisor on Risk Management, Bernardus Dwita Pradana.
The Chairman of BPK conveyed that the thorough audit on the state financial management and accountability was needed to assure and guarantee the handling of the Covid-19 pandemic as well as the national economy recovery were carried out effectively, transparently, and accountably. The diverse nature of the state financial management and accountability emerges an audit term commonly called as the audit universe. The audit is started with a thorough risk identification and a deep comprehension on the risk assessment, therefore, the audit is also often called as the risk-based comprehensive audit.
"The crisis may be viewed as a test on the resilience and reliability of the state financial management, either for an institution or for a country. To solve and overcome the complex problems arising from the crisis, we need to build a good management and collaboration," the Chairman said.
He continued, "We cannot overcome the crisis by working in silos. In this crisis situation, the trust, spirit, and togetherness are needed more than before. We need collaboration and synergy, unite ourselves and fight along to pass the Covid-19 pandemic and, shortly, restore our national economy in a sound financial management and accountability with performance orientation for the development of Indonesia."
In his remarks, the president supported the audit and asked to perform the audit soon, hoping that the audit could help in finding new solutions with the newest methods on how to best handle the crisis. The full support to the BPK for the audit is not only a responsibility of the government but also shows a commitment to, together, create the state financial management in handling the Covid-19 pandemic effectively, transparently, and accountably. The government supported the BPK includes the central government, the local governments, and other government institutions such as, Bank Indonesia (BI), Financial Service Authority (OJK), State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Public Service Agency (BLU), Regional-Owned Enterprises (BUMD), Indonesian National Army (TNI), and Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and Indonesian National Police (POLRI).
"We welcome and agree with the BPK’s efforts to harmonize our frequencies to, together, find the best solutions to restore the public health and the national economy, as well as to possibly make a jump of magnificent progress. I hope every audit carries the same frequency, giving a high priority for the interests of the people, the society, and the nation," the President closed his remarks.
