Board Member I of BPK: Protection Of Indonesian Migrant Workers Management Must Be Carried Out in a Coordinated and Integrated Manner

JAKARTA, BPK Public Relations – In accordance with Law No. 18/2017 on Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers, it is stated that the protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers means any efforts to protect the interest of prospective Indonesian Migrant Workers and/or Indonesian Migrant Workers and their families in order to ensure the fulfillment of their rights in all activities before, during, and after working in legal, economic, and social aspects. Based on this, the implementation of protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers requires good cooperation and collaboration between central government and regional government in a coordinated and integrated manner.

This was conveyed by Board Member I of the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK), Nyoman Adhi Suryadnyana, when delivering his direction and opening remarks at joint workshop between ministries/institutions related to mechanism for managing job order of Indonesian migrant workers that come from Indonesian representatives as well as data exchange and utilization of Indonesian migrant workers through an integrated information system. The workshop held at BPK Head Office on Wednesday (23/11).

He explained that through this workshop, BPK as the auditor makes some efforts to bridge any cross-sectoral dispute settlement involving more than one ministry/institution. BPK also hopes the issues on protection of Indonesian migrant workers should be seen holistically by prioritizing coordinated and integrated cooperation as well as reducing sectoral ego from each ministry/institution.

“BPK hopes that Indonesian representatives will make improvement in the stage of managing job order of Indonesian Migrant Workers that come from business partners in destination country for this is a crucial point for the success of recruitment, placement, as well as services and protection processes for Indonesian migrant workers when they work abroad,” said Board Member I.

He then emphasized that services and protection by Indonesian representatives for Indonesian migrant workers work abroad need to be supported by sufficient data of the workers provided by relevant ministries/institutions through an integrated information system.

“We hope this joint workshop can produce a recommendation that can support Indonesian government’s efforts in improving governance and increasing the quality of protection for Indonesian migrant workers abroad,” he concluded.

Director General of Audit I, Akhsanul Khaq, high-level officials of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Indonesian representatives, Ministry of Manpower, Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Agency for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (BP2MI), and BPK attended the joint workshop.
