Vice Chair of BPK: Integrity and Collaboration Are Key to Combating Fraud in the Digital Era
YOGYAKARTA, BPK Public Relations – Vice Chair of the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK), Budi Prijono, emphasized the importance of integrity and cross-sector collaboration in addressing the challenges of multidimensional fraud in the digital era. He conveyed this message during his keynote speech at the 2025 National Anti-Fraud Conference organized by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) Indonesia Chapter in Yogyakarta on Wednesday (25/6).
In his presentation, the Vice Chair of BPK highlighted that fraud not only results in financial losses but also erodes public trust and undermines institutional integrity. He underscored the relevance of this year’s conference theme, “Becik Ketitik, Ala Ketara,” a Javanese proverb meaning “what is good will be seen, and what is deviant will not remain hidden for long.” This theme serves as a reminder that integrity will ultimately prevail, while wrongdoing will inevitably come to light.
The Vice Chair explained that the global landscape of fraud eradication is presently experiencing a transformation characterized by three major trends. First, there is a transition from detection to proactive prevention by utilizing data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and smart reporting systems. Second, there is growing pressure on both the public and private sectors to maintain supply chain integrity and uphold Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards. Third, there is increasing cross-jurisdictional collaboration to address transnational cases, involving cooperation among auditors, regulators, and law enforcement agencies.
In this context, oversight institutions such as BPK and the Government Internal Supervisory Apparatus (APIP) are required to not only function with accuracy, but also to strategically identify risks and respond adaptively across various sectors. “The world is moving toward integrity-based governance that is no longer merely defensive, but also progressive and collaborative,” said the Vice Chair of BPK.
BPK holds a mandate to safeguard the integrity of state financial management. From 2023 to 2024, BPK successfully recovered more than Rp132 trillion in state funds and assets, and revealed potential irregularities amounting to Rp20 trillion. However, compliance with audit recommendations remains low, with a follow-up rate of only 47%. “This shows that effective oversight must be accompanied by policy accountability shared among all actors,” he emphasized.
In closing, the Vice Chair of BPK urged all stakeholders – regulators, APIP, auditors, state-owned enterprises (BUMN), law enforcement agencies, and civil society – to strengthen synergies and establish a complementary supervision system.
“Eradicating fraud is not an optional extra – it is the foundation of our nation’s sustainability. Let us make certain that integrity is not only written on the walls, but embedded in every action and decision of the institution,” he concluded.
The event was also attended by the Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X, along with 300 participants from various backgrounds. The conference served as a platform to explore anti-fraud strategies and is expected to make a tangible contribution to collaborative efforts in preventing and eradicating corruption and other economic crimes in Indonesia.
