BPK Initiates the Audit Guidance on the Policy and Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions Working Group on Environmental Auditing (INTOSAI WGEA) is the worldwide organization of SAIs focusing on the environmental auditing. Its mandate and primary purpose are helping SAIs to get a better understanding on issues in environmental auditing, facilitating the exchange of information and experiences among SAIs, and publishing guidances and other related information.

In the 17th Assembly Meeting of the INTOSAI WGEA held in Jakarta from October 24 to 27, 2016, the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK) invites SAIs from all over the world to actively guard the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which has been established by the United Nations in September 2015. The BPK as the Chairman of the WGEA offered the guidance concept to audit policy and implementation of the SDGs nationally, regionally and globally.

The meeting is opened by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, and attended by the Chairman of the BPK, Harry Azhar Azis, the Coordinating Minister of Economic, Darmin Nasution, which as well followed by 115 participants from 48 SAIs, Australian National University and four UN International Agencies namely United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), and Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). The Chairman of the BPK will convey a paper regarding the BPK’s role in the achievement of the SDGs. The Minister of the National Development Planning (PPN/Bappenas), Bambang Brojonegoro and the Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya Bakar will be panelists of the implementation of the SDGs in Indonesia and Multilateral Environmental Agreement (MEA).

Apart from discussing actual environmental issues both within respective countries and internationally, the meeting will agree upon the realization of the WGEA Work Plan 2014-2016 and endorse the Work Plan of 2017-2019 while inaugurating the BPK as the Chairman of the WGEA for the period of 2017-2019.

As the Chairman of the INTOSAI WGEA of 2017-2019, the BPK will be continuously committed to lead SAIs from all over the world in developing the environmental audit.
