BPK Presents Its Experiences in IT Audit at the 27th INTOSAI WGITA

The Vice Chairman of the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK), Bahrullah Akbar, presented BPK's experiences in developing its capacity in conducting Information Technology (IT)-based Audit when attending the 27th Annual Meeting of the INTOSAI Working Group on IT Audit (WGITA) held in Sydney, Australia from April 17 to 19, 2018. During the meeting, the Vice Chairman explained that the practice of IT-based audit in the BPK has been embedded in the audit on financial statements, performance audit, and special-purposed audit. In the future, it was expected that the BPK will be able to conduct a single audit on information technology development at government and State-Owned Enterprises level. The Vice Chairman also hoped that in the future, the BPK will create an auditor talent pool, in which IT auditors will become a part of the professional audit functions equal to financial, performance, and investigative auditors.

The WGITA meeting this year was attended by 51 participants from 23 SAIs and Observer (ISACA). BPK’s delegates were led by the Vice Chairman, accompanied by the Head of Information Technology Bureau, Jariyatna, and staffs, Pingky Dezar Zulkarnain and Sylvia Ika Oktavi. The purpose of this meeting is to report the progress of the WGITA project under the 2017-2019 Work Plan, so as to exchange information and experiences related to IT audit implementation among WGITA members. During the meeting, BPK as the leader for the Project 3: Data Analytics (Area: IT Audit Techniques) also reports the progress of the project implementation.

The BPK was trusted by acclamation to handle the WGITA website, which was managed by the SAI of Malaysia since 2012. As such, the BPK has more responsibility for managing and innovating the WGITA website.

In addition to that, the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) that hosted the WGITA meeting was also holding a seminar on IT Audit on April 19, 2018. The BPK was also invited to be one of the speakers, discussing the use of analytics data in performance audits.

Through these many opportunities to share experiences in international community, BPK's works will be increasingly recognized. Thus, it is expected that this will also boost spirit and performance of the BPK in promoting public sector accountability in Indonesia.
