BPK Is Reappointed As The External Auditor of IMO for 2024–2027
LONDON, BPK Public Relations – Board Member I of the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK) Nyoman Adhi Suryadnyana expressed his appreciation after BPK is reappointed as the external auditor of International Maritime Organization (IMO), the UN specialized agency responsible for safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine pollution, for the period 2024-2027. This shows that with its capacity and capability, BPK is entrusted to conduct financial audit and performance audit of international organizations.
This appointment took place at the 33rd IMO Assembly session held at IMO Headquarters, London, the United Kingdom on Friday (01/12). Board Member I of BPK said that around 175 member states attended the session and unanimously decided to reappoint BPK as reappoint BPK as the external auditor of IMO including its two controlled entities the World Maritime University (WMU) and the International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI) for 2024-2027.
“Previously, BPK was appointed as the external auditor of IMO including the WMU and IMLI for the period 2020-2023. In the previous period, BPK has conducted audits by upholding the values of independence, integrity, and professionalism and applying the highest standards to maintain audit quality,” said Board Member I of BPK.
BPK RI has also provided recommendations aimed at improving the efficiency, effectiveness, and accountability of IMO management," added Board Member I, Nyoman Adhi Suryadnyana.
The reappointment of BPK as the external auditor of IMO external auditor was made by considering BPK's knowledge and experience as current and previous external auditor of international institutions, namely the International Atomic Energy Agency (2016-2021), IMO (2020-2023) including its two controlled entities: WMU and IMLI, and the World Intellectual Property Organization (2024-2029).
In addition to IMO, in November 2023, BPK was also appointed as the external auditor of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) for the period 2023-2025. With the role as the external auditor for various international organizations, BPK is also entrusted to be the Chair of United Nations (UN) Panel of External Auditors (2022-2023).
On the same day, Indonesia was also appointed as the member of the IMO Council in Category C for the period 2024-2025. These two achievements further strengthen Indonesia's position and existence in the worldwide.
