BPK Presents Financial Audit Reports And Performance Audit Report On The International Maritime Organization
London, Tuesday (5 December 2023) - As the external auditor of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) period of 2020-2023, the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK) presented financial audit reports and performance audit report of the IMO fiscal yerar 2021 and 2022 at the 33rd Session of IMO Assembly Meeting on Monday (4/12) at the IMO Headquarters in London, United Kingdom.
"The Financial Statements of IMO fiscal year 2021 and 2022 are fairly presented in all material respects, in accordance with International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) and BPK appreciates IMO for effectively planning an integrated technical cooperation program and developing initiatives to prevent fraud in ship registration and addressing the issue of seafarer abandonment," said Board Member I of BPK, Nyoman Adhi Suryadnyana, who attended the Assembly.
Nevertheless, IMO still needs to make some improvements. These include among others, enhancing the implementation of results-based management, asset management, optimizing the use of information technology in the financial reporting process and human resource management, as well as evaluating current working practices and working relationships of the IMO Ship Identification Scheme in order to subsequently take appropriate action based on the evaluation results to improve the governance of the scheme.
Nyoman also expressed his appreciation to the management for actively following up on the audit recommendations. Since 2016, the IMO has successfully completed 74% of the total previous audit recommendations. This shows the IMO's positive response and commitment to enhancing the quality of its governance and management.
"On behalf of BPK, we would like to thank the assembly for the opportunity given and hope that BPK as an external auditor can collaborate with member states in supporting the achievement of organizational goals as the external auditor of IMO for the next period, 2024-2027," Nyoman added.
Previously, on December 1, 2023, BPK was reappointed as the external auditor of the IMO for the period 2024 to 2027. Around 175 Member States unanimously decided to reappoint BPK as the IMO's external auditor, including its two controlled entities the World Maritime University (WMU) and the International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI) for 2024-2027.
