BPK Promotes the Leverage of Performance Audit Impact, Especially in the Green Economy

Jakarta, Monday (5 June 2023) – The Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK), with the support of Public Financial Management-Multi Donor Trust Fund of the World Bank, holds an International Seminar themed Leveraging Performance Audit Impact towards Green Economy. The event aims to provide understanding and insights in enhancing the impact of the performance audit specifically on the green economy through knowledge sharing and collaboration among stakeholders.

The international seminar is designed in a hybrid format and lasts for three days, 5-7 June 2023, in Jakarta. The theme of the seminar is in line with the Indonesia Presidency of ASEAN 2023, of which ASEAN as the Epicentrum of growth. Various Supreme Audit Institution (SAIs), especially from ASEAN countries, and other national and international organizations concerning on the green economy and performance audit are participating in the seminar. They are, among others, BPK leaders, officials of Indonesian Ministries/Institutions, SAIs’ senior officials and the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI), United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP), ASEAN Centre for Energy, ASEAN GPS Leader-Ernst and Young, and SDGs Center of Universitas Padjajaran.

As part of a global society, SAIs play a significant role in assuring the achievement of Sustainable Development Agenda through the audits of the government’s relevant programs. The green economy is one of SDGs’ significant aspects that create a new focus on the economy, whose concern is on positive social and environmental outcomes. According to the respective mandate, SAIs can conduct performance audits to ensure the effectiveness of the green economy-related programs so as to deliver value and benefit for the citizens.

In her opening speech, BPK Chairperson, Isma Yatun, says “There is a greater consciousness that the performance audit is crucial in assuring public funds or government programs' economy, efficiency, and effectiveness.” She also highlights that in leveraging the impact of performance audits, especially in the green economy, SAIs cannot work alone. Thus, the seminar becomes a forum to share experiences and best practices from multi-stakeholder perspectives in order to gather as much information and insights to collaborate strategically.

The international seminar will produce a beneficial output in the form of a proceeding to be later circulated and used to develop the action plan. It will be also used to hold the high-level international seminar to be conducted in January 2024.
