BPK Receives Peer Review Results Year 2024 From SAI Germany, SAI Austria, and SAI Switzerland
Jakarta, Wednesday (August 7, 2024) – On August 6, 2024, the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK) received a Peer Review Report Year 2024 from the Peer Review Teams which comprise three Supreme Audit Institutions (SAI), namely the German Federal Court of Auditors (SAI Germany), Austrian Court of Audit (SAI Austria), and Swiss Federal Audit Office (SAI Switzerland). The Peer Review team submitted the results to the Chair of BPK, Isma Yatun at the BPK Office in Jakarta. The Vice Chair of BPK, Hendra Susanto, then submitted the report in person to the Leadership of the House of Representatives (DPR) on today (7/8) at the DPR Building, Jakarta.
The peer review was carried out in accordance with the mandate of Article 33 of Law No. 15/2006 on BPK, which states that in order to ensure the quality of BPK's audit of state financial management and accountability is in accordance with the standards, BPK's quality control system is reviewed by other state financial audit institutions that are members of the international organization of supreme audit institutions.
The appointment of three SAIs as reviewers of the BPK's quality control system in 2024 has received consideration from the DPR through Letter of the Vice Speaker the DPR Number T/873/PW.11.01/11/2023 in response to Letter of the Chair of BPK Number 66/S/I/06/2023.
The three SAIs conducted Peer Review activities from July 2023 to August 2024. The areas reviewed were Human Resource Management (reviewed by SAI German), Ethics and Integrity Management (reviewed by SAI Austria), and Information Technology (reviewed by SAI Switzerland). "This peer review is very significant to maintain stakeholders’ trust and increase BPK’s credibility, because these three areas are important for quality control and strong institutional development," said Hendra Susanto.
The Peer Review results showed that BPK has demonstrated high standards in its Internal Control System, especially in the three areas reviewed. BP must, nevertheless, continue to enhance and develop some aspects. "BPK will follow up on these recommendations and continue to improve the quality of accountability of the state financial management and accountability, as well as maintain professionalism as an audit institution," Isma Yatun explained.
On August 6, 2024, as part of a series of BPK Peer Review report submission, the Chair of BPK, the Chair of SAI Germany Kay Scheller, Chair of the SAI Austria Dr. Margit Kraker, Chair of the SAI Switzerland Pascal Stirnimann, and President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo met at the State Palace.
Ambassadors from friendly nations, namely Germany, Austria, and Switzerland were also present in this series, which aimed to strengthen institutional relations as well as bilateral relations between countries.
The three SAIs conducted the fifth Peer Review of BPK, following earlier Peer Reviews undertaken by SAI New Zealand in 2004, SAI Netherlands in 2009, SAI Poland in 2014, and a joint Peer Review Team from SAI Poland, SAI Norway, and SAI Estonia in 2019.
