BPK Supports Government Efforts in Initiating Blue Economy Program
Gianyar, Monday (November 11, 2024) – The Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK) supports the government's efforts to advance the blue economy program by promoting responsible management of Indonesia's marine assets. This support entails bridging knowledge gaps in blue economy practices and empowering stakeholders to adopt sustainable measures that foster economic development while preserving marine resources.
“BPK is conducting blue economy audit training to demonstrate its commitment to strengthening networks among auditors and professionals responsible for marine resource management,” explained Board Member VI of BPK, Fathan Subchi, at the opening of the international training event, titled Hands-On Audit Training in the Blue Economy: The Development of Audit Design Matrix (ADM) on Fishery, Coastal, and Mangrove. The event was conducted today (11/11) at the Training Institute Operating Units in Gianyar, Bali.
The training takes a blended learning approach, with self-learning, distance learning, and in-person sessions. The training began on October 28, 2024, with face-to-face sessions scheduled from November 11 to 15, 2024. It drew 36 participants from 17 countries across five continents: America (Belize and Jamaica), Europe (Poland), Africa (Egypt, Gambia, Tanzania, Kenya, and Mauritius), Asia (South Korea, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Sri Lanka), and Oceania (Papua New Guinea).
The training included presentations by BPK on Indonesia’s Blue Economy Audit Strategy, insights from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries on the Blue Economy Road Map, and a case study from the Ministry of Environment on coastal and marine development control, with a focus on mangrove rehabilitation in Bali. Participants also presented Country Papers on the blue economy in their respective countries, fostering knowledge exchange and network building.
In addition to classroom sessions, participants engaged in field learning activities, including a visit to the Ngurah Rai People's Forest Park (Tahura) to study mangrove ecosystems, a trip to Amed Beach in Karangasem to observe coastal management practices, and a tour of Benoa Harbor to see sustainable fishing practices in Indonesia.
This training aims to expand participants' perspectives on blue economy development, enhance their skills in developing ADMs for audit planning, and establish a blue economy audit-focused learning community.
