HAMBURG, BPK Public Relations - Chair of the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK), Isma Yatun held a courtesy meeting with the Registrar of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS), Ximena Hinrichs Oyarce at ITLOS headquarters in Hamburg, Germany, on Friday (25/4). Director of International Audit of BPK Kusuma Ayu Rusnasanti and Head of Budget and Finance of ITLOS Roman Ritter were also in attendance at the meeting. This was the first meeting since BPK was elected as the external auditor of ITLOS for the period of 2025 to 2028 in June 2024.

On this occasion, Chair of BPK conveyed BPK's commitment as the external auditor and the audit arrangement for the audit of the financial statements of ITLOS for fiscal year 2025. The interim audit is scheduled to take place in October 2025, followed by a final audit in January 2026. In addition, Chair of BPK also expressed gratitude to ITLOS management for their assistance during the handover process with BDO Public Accounting Firm, the previous external auditor of ITLOS. BPK will then prepare an audit team to conduct the financial audit, including an audit of Cash Surplus of ITLOS

Responding to Chair of BPK, the Registrar of ITLOS appreciated BPK’s commitment and communication between ITLOS management and BPK. The Registrar believed that BPK's audit recommendations will have a positive impact on the financial governance of ITLOS.

The appointment of BPK as the external auditor for ITLOS marks the first appointment for the Supreme Audit Institution (SAI). In addition to ITLOS, BPK has also been appointed as the external auditor of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) for the period 2025-2029 and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) for the period 2027-2029. These new appointments are expected to increase BPK’s credibility in the international community and contribute to improve the quality of transparency and accountability in the international organizations.
