Speaker of DPR: Collaboration Among Government, Parliament and Audit Board to Respond to Global Problems
Nusa Dua, Tuesday (30 August 2022) – Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) and Chair of the Parliament 20 (P20) Puan Maharani conveys her appreciation to the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK) for initiating the establishment of the Supreme Audit Institutions 20 (SAI20) as the new engagement group of the G20. The initiative is expected to be able to respond to the need for governance, transparency and accountability in managing state resources in the midst and post-pandemic.
Through a joint work, collaboration and mutual cooperation among countries, it is expected that it can strive to fasten the steps to respond to global problems. "We can do this if the Government, Parliament and Audit Board or SAI can use the opportunity in the G20, P20 and SAI20 forums to build a strong commitment in saving the fate of the world through decisions and a real joint work agenda," Puan said at the SAI20 Summit happening today in Nusa Dua, Bali.
Puan adds that each country's SAI can also take on the role of a G20 partner in ensuring increased accountability and effectiveness of each country's global policies. This role can be carried out by the SAI through its participation in overseeing the sustainability of the mutually agreed global agenda.
The Chairperson of BPK, Isma Yatun, emphasizes that P20 and SAI20 have the same interests and can strengthen collaboration to accelerate post-pandemic economic recovery and achieve the 2030 agenda for sustainable development goals. "The Speaker of the DPR emphasizes collaborative action in facing challenges that are rapidly emerging. The SAI20 needs to work together with the P20 and other stakeholders to carry out an independent supervisory function to ensure the success of the policies and programs of the G20 countries," she said.
The SAI20 Summit is the ultimate of a series of previous activities, starting from bilateral meetings, technical meeting and Senior Officials Meeting.
