The Chair of BPK Leads The UN Panel Of External Auditors to Meet With The Secretary-General of The UN

New York, November 21, 2023 - The Chair of the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK), Dr. Isma Yatun, in her capacity as the Chair of United Nations (UN) Panel of External Auditors met Secretary-General of the UN Antonio Guteres at UN Headquarters in New York, United States. The Chair of BPK was accompanied by 11 Panel members from 11 countries, namely Canada, Chile, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, the Philippines, Russia, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

During the meeting with the Secretary-General of the UN, Isma Yatun emphasized the importance of effective risk management due to conflict situations, post-COVID-19 and inflationary pressures and global chains. This has led to financial challenges including liquidity crisis. Concerning this matter, the Panel hoped for a well-structured funding strategy. The Panel also discussed climate fund management and digital transformation at the UN.

Antonio Guteres appreciated the Auditor’s role in overseeing the UN financial management and performance. The Secretary-General of the UN explained that the financial and liquidity challenges were important and complex. The UN continued to strive to improve its performance by developing a number of scenarios to ensure financing sustainability in the future.

BPK has been the member of the UN Panel of External Auditors since 2016. BPK assumed as Vice-Chair of the UN Panel in 2022, and the Chair of the UN Panel in 2023. The UN Panel of External Auditors serves as a forum for the exchange of information and methodologies aim at increasing the value and quality of the external assurance process in the UN organizations.

The panel consists of Auditor Generals of 11 Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) who are either elected or appointed to conduct the external audits of the UN Secretariat, Funds and Programmes and Specialized Agencies, and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
