The Importance of a Common Platform for SAIs to Address Global Issues

SEOUL, BPK Public Relations - Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) of MIKTA member countries (Mexico, Indonesia, Korea, Turkey, and Australia) held their first meeting in Seoul on 7-9 May 2024.

MIKTA SAIs meeting was attended by Indonesia (the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia/BPK), Korea, Turkey, and Australia. The meeting aimed to discuss the Role of MIKTA SAIs Meeting and Way Forward, SAI Preparedness for Future Risks, and Direction and Challenges of SAI's Innovation.

On this occasion, BPK delegates, led by Vice Chair of BPK Hendra Susanto, emphasized the need for a clear platform for MIKTA SAIs.

“The platform will be the foundation to provide a clear role and contribution of SAIs of MIKTA member countries to the MIKTA community and other related communities,” explained the Vice Chair of BPK.

Meanwhile, at the opening ceremony, Chair of the Board of Audit and Inspection (BAI) of Korea Jaehae Choe expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the support given to the initiative to establish MIKTA SAIs. Choe hoped that this meeting would strengthen solidarity among MIKTA SAIs, especially while dealing with global issues.

To enrich the discussion, MIKTA SAIs meeting presented resource persons and experts in the field of the role of MIKTA SAIs and global challenges Professor from Kyunghaee University; Artificial Intelligence (AI) Hyunjin Choi, Head of AI2XL Research Institute and Director of Responsible AI Center at KT Soonmin Bae, and climate change,Professor of Yonsei UniversityTaeyong Jung.

MIKTA SAIs meeting is beneficial for improving BPK ‘s capacity, particularly in terms of its readiness to face future risks and innovation development, as well as strengthening international support and cooperation.

The outcomes of MIKTA of SAIs meeting will be presented at the next meeting of SAI leaders of MIKTA countries, as well as at the SAI20 Summit, which will take place in Brazil on June 15 to 18, 2024.

MIKTA (Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey and Australia) cooperation forum was initiated during an informal meeting of G20 Foreign Ministers in Los Cabos, Mexico, in February 2012. MIKTA was formally established in 2013 after the first MIKTA Foreign Ministers' Meeting took place during the 68th session of the UN General Assembly. As a 'middle power' forum, MIKTA serves as a 'consensus maker' and 'bridge builder' between developing and developed countries.
