BPK and SAI Germany Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation Through High Level Meeting
BONN, BPK Public Relations – The Chairperson of the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK), Isma Yatun, holds a bilateral meeting with the President of Bundesrechnungshof or the Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) of the Republic of Germany, Kay Scheller, at the Headquarters in Bonn, Germany, Monday. The meeting aims to strengthen the bilateral cooperation and increase the synergy between BPK and SAI Germany.
It is the second bilateral meeting of the two leaders following the previous meeting held on the sidelines of the meeting of the United Nations Panel of External Auditors in Santiago, Chile, in November 2022.
On the occasion, the BPK Chairperson is accompanied by Secretary General Bahtiar Arif and Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Division Kusuma Ayu Rusnasanti. Meanwhile, the President of SAI Germany is accompanied by Audit Director, EU Liaison Officer, Ahmed Demir, Former Director of the UN Board of Auditors (UN BoA), Christian Edelmann and Former Deputy Director of the UN BoA, Maik Esser-Mullenbach.
A number of important and relevant topics to the two institutions is discussed, namely audit management of the UN BoA and issues of the management of the UN Panel of External Auditors. These topics are raised pertaining to the role of SAI Germany as a member of the UN BoA for 2016-2022 period and the UN Panel of External Auditors.
SAI Germany’s experiences when become a member of the UN BoA are very valuable information for BPK as a reference in enhancing its role as the UN external auditor. In addition, the discussion on issues related to the UN Panel of External Auditors is very relevant for BPK, which is currently entrusted as the Chair for 2023 period.
In her remarks, the Chairperson expresses her appreciation and gratitude to the President of SAI Germany for receiving BPK’s delegates and sharing knowledge and experiences as also giving the opportunity to gain insights from SAI Germany’s extensive experiences in managing audits at the UN BoA and the UN Panel of External Auditors.
The Chairperson explains that BPK is currently increasing its role and contribution regionally and internationally. At the international level, BPK is trusted as the Chair of the UN Panel of External Auditors, while in the Southeast Asia region, BPK is the secretariat of the ASEANSAI (the SAI organization of the ASEAN countries).
The President of SAI Germany says that BPK’s visit is an honor and welcomed to increase the bilateral cooperation. He says that management readiness and well planning are the keys to success in managing the UN BoA.
The two SAIs also share about the respective organizational practices, including in terms of independence, mandate, duties and resources, as well as roles in the international community. It is expected that through the bilateral meeting, the cooperation between BPK and SAI Germany will grow and be even stronger.
