Chair Encourages BPK Employees to Recognize The Importance of Cyber Security Due to Their Vulnerability to Crime
JAKARTA, BPK Public Relations – Government organizations are “prime target” for cyber-attacks because they control the most secretive, sensitive, and high value public data and information. For this reason, increasing cyber security is essential so that the government organizations remain attentive to any threats that have the potential to cause negative and large-scale impacts.
According to Chair of the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK) Isma Yatun, with the rising digitization of government systems and remote working, personal devices tend not to have access to IT security patches and updates. As a result, government information systems are subject to security breaches or cybercrime.
“The impacts and losses caused by the cybercrime are quite large, both financial and long-term impacts such as reputational damage,” stated Chair during a cybersecurity training and education session held at Auditorium of BPK Head Office in Jakarta on Monday (9/10).
“It is therefore the best option for the organization, including BPK is to take pro-active efforts to mitigate risks and design a resilient and comprehensive recovery plan to protect all stakeholders’ interests,” she said.
The chair then advised Heads of BPK Regional Office to constantly maintain security when connected to the head office network. She also encouraged BPK employees to recognize the importance of protecting sensitive information, to be able to identify potential threats and respond to the threats appropriately.
“Employee IT devices are a crucial point in network security in the integrated BPK information system,” Chair added.
Through BPK Training Institute of State Financial Audit (Badiklat PKN), BPK held cyber security training and education session exclusively for Intermediate High Leadership Officials (PPTM) and First High Leadership Officials (PPTP) of BPK.
The training opened by Chair aimed to provide PPTM and PPTP with a better understanding of the responsibilities of decision makers in dealing with cyber security.
“The training creates a commitment beginning with PPTM and PPTP, as a tone from the top to create a culture of security awareness among all employees as IT access users at BPK,” she said.
Director General of Badiklat PKN Suwarni Dyah Setyaningsih stated that training participants are expected to be able to understand security framework models, risk concepts, security policy concepts, and how to design an effective cyber security program structure.
The training, attended by 17 PPTM and 79 PPTP of BPK, featured presentations by Deputy for Cyber and Government Crypto Security and Human Development (BSSN) Sulistyo and Director of Information Technology Bureau of BPK Pranoto.
