Vice Chairman of BPK Attends Fifty-Fourth Session of United Nations IAAC
JAKARTA, BPK Public Relations - Vice Chairman of the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK), Agus Joko Pramono, as Vice Chair of the Independent Audit Advisory Committee (IAAC) attended 54th (fifty-fourth) session of United Nations IAAC.
Organized virtually using Microsoft Team from 21 to 23 of April 2021, the session was attended by members of the committee comprised of Ms. Janet St. Laurent (United States of America)-Chair, Ms. Dorothy A. Bradley (Belize), Mr. Anton V. Kosyanenko (Russian Federation), and Mr. Imran Vanker (South Africa). The Executive Secretary of IAAC, Moses Bamuwamye also attended the session.
Agenda of the 54th session includes discussions with prominent member of United Nations organization such as, Controller and Assistant Secretary-General for Program Planning, Finance and Budget, Mr. Chandramouli Ramanathan; Under-Secretary-General for Office of Internal Oversight Services (USG OIOS), Ms. Fatoumata Ndiaye; Under-Secretary-General for Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (USG DMSPC), Ms. Catherine Pollard; as well as Under-Secretary-General for Department of Economic and Social Affairs (USG DESA), Mr. Liu Zhenmin.
The session with Controller and Assistant Secretary-General for Program Planning, Finance and Budget, Mr. Chandramouli Ramanathan specifically discussed not only 2022 program budget plan, but also operational budget implications of financial statements in organizations related to Peace Keeping Operation and After Service Health Insurance (ASHI). Meanwhile the session with Under-Secretary-General for Office of Internal Oversight Services (USG OIOS), Ms. Fatoumata Ndiaye, discussed strategic issues including 2020 budget proposal, capacity gap issues, as well as follow-up status of OIOS’s recommendations by managements of organizations. In particular, this session pointed out the recommendations that had not been followed-up, highlighting 10 – 20 of the most recommendations.
Members of the committee virtually met Under-Secretary-General for Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (USG DMSPC), Ms. Catherine Pollard and had an in-depth discussion. Some of the focused discussion included implementation status of recommendations in Oversight Body, specifically follow-up of the recommendations made upon Board of Auditors’ reviews; Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) related issues; progress of Risk Treatment and Response Plan; as well as ERM module and smartphone base application namely Umoja Outreach.
The other substantial and far-reaching discussion was with Under-Secretary-General for Department of Economic and Social Affairs (USG DESA), Mr. Liu Zhenmin. The agenda involved not only a discussion on re-position report of United Nations development system to keep achieving an integrated 2030 Agenda for SDGs efficiently while having COVID-19 Pandemic challenges, but also a discussion on SDGs database managed by United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA).
Representing Indonesia as Vice Chair of UN IAAC, Vice Chairman of BPK may bring Indonesia to get more involved, take more roles and contributions, as well as improve and build cooperation to supervise international organizational body under United Nations. In addition, Indonesia may have critical role to ensure compliance with not only supervision result but also recommendations made by other oversight body. In other words, role of Vice Chairman of BPK as Vice Chair of UN IAAC may significantly improve figures of BPK as an institution having high competence acknowledged by international community.
