JAKARTA, BPK Public Relations- The Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK) is appointed as the external auditor of the Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries, and Food Security (CTI-CFF) for the fiscal year beginning January 1, 2023 and ending December 31, 2023.

The appointment is based on a decision made by the CTI-CFF Regional Secretariat and approved by Chair of the CTI-CFF Council of Senior Officers (CSO). The CTI-CFF Executive Director Frank Keith Griffin submiited the appointment letter to Chair of BPK Isma Yatun on Thursday (21/03).

CTI-CFF is an international organization that represents a multilateral partnership of six countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Solomon Islands, and Timor Leste) working together to sustain marine and coastal resources by addressing crucial issues such as food security, climate change, and marine biodiversity. The CTI-CFF regional secretariat office is now based in Manado, Indonesia.

BPK submitted a proposal for candidacy as the external auditor of CTI-CFF on December 27, 2023. The proposal was made by considering BPK's knowledge and experience as an external auditor of various international organizations. BPK is also trusted to be Chair of the UN Panel of External Auditors (2022-2023) and Chair of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) (2028-2031) having previously served as Vice Chair of INTOSAI (2025-2028).

With the appointment of BPK as the external auditor of CTI-CFF, BPK will immediately carry out the mandate and succeed the previous external auditor, Public Accounting Firm (KAP) Paul Hadiwinata, Hidajat, Arsono, Retno, Palilingan & Partners. This is also intended to increase BPK’s capacity and credibility, as well as strengthen stakeholders' trust in the BPK.

The CTI-CFF aims to protect marine and coastal biological resources on member countries’ territories while also addressing poverty reduction through economic development, food security, sustainable livelihoods for coastal communities, and biodiversity conservation through the protection of species, habitats and ecosystems. These objectives are achieved by adopting and implementing regional action plans by each member country.

The regional action plan includes strengthening marine landscape management; promoting an ecosystem approach to fisheries management; establishing and improving effective management of marine protected areas; increasing coastal communities resilience to climate change; and protecting endangered species. In addition, through the CTI-CFF, member countries commit to implement human-centred biodiversity protection, sustainable development, poverty reduction, and fair benefit sharing.
