BPK Leads 6th ASEANSAI Senior Officials’ Meeting

JAKARTA, BPK Public Relations - The Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK) as Secretariat of ASEAN Supreme Audit Institutions (ASEANSAI) facilitated as well as attended 6th ASEANSAI Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) on 28 – 29 July 2021. Organized virtually, the meeting discussed strategic issues of ASEANSAI management and sustainability.

Secretariat General of BPK, Bahtiar Arif, as Head of ASEANSAI Secretariat led the meeting. Bahtiar Arif said that amidst current COVID-19 Pandemic situation, ASEANSAI needed to adapt to the situation well while at the same time, kept committed to accomplish its tasks, as well as facilitated its member SAIs for any organizational and institutional capacity building.

To achieve ASEANSAI goals successfully, member SAIs needed to give their full supports. In addition, Bahtiar Arif hoped that the meeting might produce constructive and fruitful decisions that carried ASEANSAI into a higher level of organizational maturity.

Started with preparation meeting on 27 July 2021, the SOM was organized in two days meeting on 28 – 29 July 2021 along with pre-handover ASEANSAI Chairmanship in the afternoon of 29 July 2021. Attended by 67 delegates of 10 member SAIs of ASEANSAI, the delegation from each SAIwas headed by a high-level or senior official of the respective SAI.

At the SOM, BPK presented its study and analysis of ASEANSAI Task Force on Legal Capacity (TFALC), proposed an agenda for upcoming6th ASEANSAI Summit, provided financial statement of ASEANSAI, as well as proposed a budget to finance for next activities of 2022 – 2023.

The SOM agreed some way forwards as followings:

  1. Draft of Revised ASEANSAI Rules and Procedures, Draft of ASEANSAI Strategic Plan for 2022-2025, Term of Reference (TOR) of Knowledge Sharing Committee, and ASEANSAI Committees' Work Planfor 2022-2023 will accommodate inputs and suggestions of member SAIs. The adjusted documents will be circulated to all member SAIs within two weeks after the SOM;
  2. ASEANSAI has already had legal capacity that any amendment to ASEANSAI Agreement is no longer required;
  3. The upcoming 6thASEANSAI Summit will be held virtually on 2 November 2021. Secretariat of ASEANSAI will jointly prepare and organize the summit along with ASEANSAI Executive Committee; and

The agreed appointment of ASEANSAI Committees for 2022-2023, the agreed proposed budget of ASEANSAI for 2022-2023, as well as the agreed appointment of ASEANSAI auditor to audit ASEANSAI financial statement of 2020-2021 will be carried on 6th Summit for assembly approval.

Along with Secretary General of BPK, some representatives of working units in BPK attended the SOM. The working units participated in the SOM included Directorate General of Audit Planning, Evaluation, and Development, Directorate General of Legal Affairs, Directorate General of Investigative Audit, as well as Secretariat Team of Public Relations and International Cooperation Bureau.
