BPK Participates in The 7th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development

JAKARTA, BPK Public Relations – The Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK) participated in the 7th virtual Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD) on May 20, 2020.

Organized by one of United Nations organizations, the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the APFSD was an annual intergovernmental forum functioned as a regional platform to support countries, in particular those with special needs in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. The theme of the APFSD this year was "Accelerating Action for and Delivery of the 2030 Agenda in Asia and the Pacific".

The BPK Vice Chairman, Agus Joko Pramono, as one of the participants mentioned that the BPK has been giving crucial role in providing assurance of Indonesia’s Voluntary National Review (VNR) through the audit on the national preparedness of the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) conducted in 2017.

The BPK has also been actively supporting the government in preparing robust regulations on data collection, ensuring data disaggregation in all governmental levels and sub-national level. In 2019, BPK acknowledged the need for synchronizing social protection data with education data to deliver the social protection program in education. "BPK’s audit in 2020 found some problems related to the inadequate data verification and validation at the national level causing the ineffective data input in the social assistance distribution", the Vice Chairman said.

The forum presented international speakers from varied stakeholders including governments, parliaments, audit institutions, United Nations, academicians, non-government institutions, and other related stakeholders. Many current issues were discussed focusing on the regional perspective in accelerating the progress of the 2030 agenda on SDGs while interconnecting national, regional and global dimensions of the 2030 agenda.

An active participation in regional forums will enable the BPK to introduce its best practices to the international community. With these experiences, it is expected that the BPK will be more internationally acknowledged and be a foremost Supreme Audit Institution within its international community.
