Supervise Performance Audit on IMO, Vice Chair of BPK Attends Courtesy Meeting with the Secretary General of IMO

LONDON, BPK Public Relations – Vice Chair of the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK), Hendra Susanto, held a courtesy meeting with Secretary General of International Maritime Organization (IMO), Arsenio Dominguez, at IMO headquarters in London, United Kingdom, on Wednesday (6/3). This meeting is part of the supervisory activities for the performance audit on IMO year 2023.

During the meeting, Secretary General of IMO was accompanied by Director of Administrative Division, Azarah Prempeh, Director of Technical Cooperation and Implementation Division, Jose Matheickal, Chief of Central Support Services, Annabelle Viajaar, and Head of Financial and Budget Services, Andrew Richardson. Performance audit team, Pitriyanti, Budi Setiawan, and Rakhmat L. Mosii were also present during the meeting.

The audit supervision is carried out on performance audit with IMO’s long-term project management as the focus of audit. The audit aims to assess and improve the effectiveness of long-term project management practices, emphasizing planning and monitoring processes, to ensure the quality of services provided to IMO Member States.

On this occasion, Vice Chair of BPK conveyed discussion points. These include expressing gratitude to management for following up on most of the recommendations from the previous audit and providing feedback on the impact of the performance audit carried out, the topic and scope of this year's performance audit, as well as highlighting the involvement of Member States to strengthen stakeholder engagement.

The Secretary General of IMO appreciated the audit carried out and believed that the performance audit recommendations provide positive impacts on improving organizational governance at IMO, particularly with regard to long-term project management. In addition, he also appreciated the communication maintained between the audit team and IMO management, especially with Technical Cooperation and Implementation Division, which served as the main focal point in the performance audit this year.

During the visit, Vice Chair of BPK was accompanied by Deputy Director of Certification and Accreditation of BPK Training Institute, Hediana Makmur, as well as Director of Global Partnership Center, Ikhtaria Syaziah. It was the first courtesy meeting between BPK and the IMO since the elected Secretary General of the IMO, Arsenio Dominguez, officially took office on January 1, 2024.
